Planet Improv is facing a firm countdown date of Monday, September 28th.

For the past five years, Wilson STEM Academy has served as our flagship model, proving what happens when you embed applied life skills into a Title I elective schedule. This year, we are scheduled to deliver 92 instructional days (460 hours) of classes.

However, secured funding only carries our teaching artists through September 28th. To fund the remaining 81 instructional days, we face an immediate $22,000 operational gap. Without community support, programming stops on September 28th—leaving an entire classroom without these vital skill-building tools.

Real Life Skills—Not Stage Performers

Across North and South Carolina, thousands of Title I K-12 students face intense peer pressure, chronic anxiety, and high-stress environments. Academic scores alone cannot teach a child how to de-escalate conflict, manage stress, or navigate high-risk choices.

Through P.L.A.Y. (Positive Learning through Applied Improvisation for Youth) and TGFD-Maximizing Life, we don’t offer rigid lectures. Aligned with state standards and national CASEL SEL standards, our interactive curriculum turns isolated students into confident, communicative leaders.

Our goal is not to turn students into comedians; our true mission is workforce and life readiness. In a typical session, students step into collaborative, low stakes exercises to build critical, transferable skills:

  • Public Speaking & Articulate Expression: Overcoming self-doubt to speak up clearly in class.
  • Literacy & Creative Writing: Scripting scenes and strengthening reading comprehension.
  • Emotional Regulation & Choice Avoidance: Practical tools to manage stress and resist negative peer pressure.
  • Active Communication & Empathy: Listening actively and solving real-life conflicts collaboratively.

  • $1,350: Sponsors 1 Week of Programming (5 Class Days).
